    Changes

    1.6.2 (usability fixes following 1.6.1:
    (a) add less to ECS01_PACKAGES (was absent on ALL variants —
    LXC + VM, every distro; a general miss, not Debian-only).
    (b) /etc/network/interfaces now begins with
    source /etc/network/interfaces.d/* so drop-ins are read.
    (c) VM-only (build-cloud-image.sh): install+enable
    systemd-resolved on Debian/Ubuntu and point /etc/resolv.conf
    at its stub; Devuan keeps the static Quad9 fallback.)

    Changes

    1.6.1 (Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) ECS01 LXC target added following 1.6.0.
    Revision bump (new distro target; devuan/debian recipes
    unchanged). New target
    build_ubuntu2404_ecs01 is a systemd clone of the Debian 13
    path — reuses the ENTIRE systemd wiring (etckeeper finalise,
    ecs-firstboot.service, nullmailer-from.service, machine-id,
    console-getty override). Ubuntu-specific:
    (a) Suite noble; distro id ubuntu; VERSION_ID 24.04. Artifact
    base ubuntu-24.04-noble-ECS01_24.04-_amd64.
    (b) COMPONENTS main restricted universe multiverse (NOT Debian's
    contrib/non-free/non-free-firmware). universe is
    load-bearing — several ECS01 packages (iotop-c, byobu, …)
    live there and will not resolve without it.
    (c) KEYRING: ubuntu-keyring installed IN THE ROOTFS (debootstrap
    --include=ubuntu-keyring) AND the bootstrap authenticated
    with --keyring=/usr/share/keyrings/ubuntu-archive-keyring.gpg
    — else apt fails NO_PUBKEY on noble at build time AND on the
    deployed instance. preflight_devuan auto-installs
    ubuntu-keyring on the HOST when an Ubuntu target is queued
    (mirrors the devuan-keyring auto-install logic).
    (d) UBUNTU_MIRROR is env-overridable
    (default GUESSED http://ubuntu.envisagecloud.net.za/ubuntu —
    CONFIRM before a production build). noble/-updates/-security
    all wired to the same mirror host (Ubuntu layout, not the
    Debian split-security-host layout).
    VM builder (build-cloud-image.sh) gains the matching ubuntu
    target on the same day; test-devuan-template.sh detects
    ID=ubuntu as a systemd variant.

    1.6.0 (hvisage shell = zsh following 1.5.8:
    (a) hvisage login shell set to zsh (was /bin/bash; zsh already
    in ECS01_PACKAGES). useradd guards on command -v zsh.
    (b) ships a default /home/hvisage/.zshrc (history, completion,
    emacs bindkey, colour aliases) so the first interactive
    login is "activated" with sane defaults instead of the
    zsh-newuser-install wizard. LXC ECS01 only (the VM builder
    does not create hvisage). test-devuan-template.sh updated to
    expect a */zsh shell + the .zshrc.)

    Changes

    1.5.8 (etckeeper deploy-fix + first-boot finaliser following 1.5.7:
    (a) etckeeper is a REQUIRED operational install but 1.5.7
    shipped /etc/etckeeper/etckeeper.conf with VCS="" (the
    SKIP_ETCKEEPER_AUTOINIT build-hang workaround, Refs #1),
    which breaks apt on the deployed container with "Please
    configure a VCS". Now finalize_etckeeper_conf ships
    VCS="git" (valid) and the repo is initialised at FIRST BOOT
    (only first boot knows the real hostname for the git
    identity, and it sidesteps the #1 in-chroot busy-loop).
    (b) New shared idempotent first-boot finaliser src/ecs-firstboot
    installed into both ECS01 variants + wired per init system
    (OpenRC /etc/init.d/ecs-firstboot oneshot; systemd
    ecs-firstboot.service). It runs etckeeper init + sets git
    identity root@, regenerates ssh host keys (closes the
    long-open H4 on OpenRC), asserts a unique machine-id +
    /var/lib/dbus/machine-id symlink, adds the /etc/hosts
    127.0.1.1 line, and sets nullmailer me/mailname/allmailfrom
    — all keyed on the real per-instance hostname.
    (c) apt Pre-Invoke self-heal (/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00-ecs-
    firstboot) initialises etckeeper if /etc/.git is missing
    before any apt op, closing the finaliser-vs-first-apt race.

    _TPL_VERSION must follow to 1.5.8 (deferred, see #31/#33).)
